On the whole Pontrieux is a very quiet place to live. By 6.30 pm what passes as a ‘rush hour’ has finished and the town becomes deathly silent. Unless there is anything on in the Mairie the town is deserted. I wonder if there is a curfew I don’t know about.
The problem with silence is that any noise is exacerbated. Until the early hours of Saturday morning I was kept awake by low bass sounds coming from the square. I couldn’t decide if it was one of the local chavs in a car or someone having a party. I am a notoriously light sleeper, yet whenever there is any night time noise none of my neighbours appear to have heard it. Perhaps it is because my room is up in what was the attic I am more prone to noise.
